The Feigenbaum constant

I had previously blogged about my new series on faith and math, but today seemed like a good day to post another picture in this series.

This piece is about the Feigenbaum constant, another transcendental number. Every chaotic system that corresponds to this description will bifurcate at the same rate. Feigenbaum's constant can be used to predict when chaos will arise in such systems before it ever occurs.

Tiny Little Droplets

Another wonderful collaboration photo. This picture shows a water drop impacting a superhydrophobic surface. This was part of a poster titled "Size Dependence of Drops Impacting Superhydrophobic Surfaces", by D.A. Bolleddula, H.E. Dillon, A. Aliseda, P.S. Bhosale, and J.C. Berg.

Speak, Memory

The UWPG show "Speak, Memory" which I have been preparing for all summer has just gone up. It features great work from several local photographers who all interpret the theme in diverse ways. The full series I have developed is also available on my website (link).

9th Avenue School of Dance is performing The Nutcracker this year at the Fife Performing Art's Center. Holiday magic guaranteed!

Ferrofluid droplets

This image shows the sequence of a ferrofluid (magnetic fluid) impacting a superhydrophobic surface. The video that explains the phenomena was a recent submission to a fluid conference by Danny Bolledula, Prasad Bhosale, myself, and other collaborators. The video gives an overview of ferrofluids and the jetting phenomena we observed.

Dog Day

Sometimes the best subject for a portrait is a pet. Even when the dog in question seems to think you are crazy.

Math+photo+coffee = fun

My photography is the current month exhibit at the Zoka Cafe in the University District. The math photography is featured, well worth a trip for the lovely coffee alone ....

Aria Dance presents Threads

Just a moment to highlight an upcoming dance performance that I made the poster for. The Aria Dance Company is presenting "Threads, weaving the stories of life" on November 5th. The show will also feature guest performances from Dance Contemporary and AEON Contemporary Dance.

Romance in the Dark

A wonderful engagement session with an adorable couple. We ended up shooting after dark in Seattle, which led to the great silhouette in front of the stained glass of Suzzallo.

I think you can just tell they will be happy forever from looking at the photos.

Live Music at Neumos

A few friends and I went to see Reggae at Neumos. Too dark to get amazing photos but I think you can see the fun the performers were having. Beres Hammond, Inner Circle, Culture feat Kenyata, Lenya Wilks.

Exploring Faith and Math

I am starting a new series exploring faith and mathematics. Many scientist write about the ties they see between religion and mathematics including Carl Sagan, John C. Polkinghorne (my favorite) and many more.

My series is based on transcendental numbers and scientific constants. Hopefully they are a thought-provoking look at your own faith, whether you believe in God, science, or both.

This image is called "the transcendental nature of prayer". None of the 5 trillion digits of pi calculated to date repeat. Can we quantify prayer?

Oregon Coast Feature

I have a new gallery on the website to feature my Oregon Coast work. I started this gallery because I have had several recent requests for a "collection". There is a range of geography from Heceta Head and the Sea Lion Caves to the Canon Beach area.

A travel website is now featuring several of the images in the photo journal section.

This is the first portrait in my new series, "Memory, speak". The goal is to allow the memories of a person to tell you the story of who they are. I find the layers of a human that are not visible in the face are fascinating.

A sneak peak for the lovely bride and groom from Idaho. It was an amazing party and a beautiful wedding in Priest Lake, Idaho. I could hardly pick which to post so there are more coming soon!
